Wow.  Both venues have called off racing for the weekend.  I can never recall tracks cancelling due to heat.  Anyone?

Perhaps with "global warming" we are entering a new era?

I think it's a good decision, especially for the sake of the safety crew and track workers.

Heat can be bad for engines too.

We went to a big Super Modified show at Spartan Speedway years ago in weather similar to this for a DAY show. The asphalt started coming apart in chunks and the program was cancelled.

Oh, yeah..... I can see that happening.  But these guys are cancelling ahead of time to avoid any heat-related issues.  I just never remember that happening before.

I think it is a good idea in the interest of safety for everyone involved. Also the promoters realize the crowds would most likely be down.

I would imagine that track prep would be a nightmare with all these sunny days and heat.  Better to cancel now rather than have another dust fiasco.
