I fail to see how this is a "good" idea.
All it does is continue to water the current sprint car situation down even more. Even if they are working together, it does nothing to help. All we have is another person not happy, and they think they have a better idea.
Now we have yet another sprint car series born. The casual fan has no clue what is going on. The little point funds are now even that much smaller. Sheesh, we are back to 4 different groups in Michigan, yet once again. The only part that really sticks out to me is the top heavy purse. That only benefits a couple people.
There is alot more to this story than what is being told. If you are a huge sprint car fan, and want to help the sport more, you throw your help at a current situation. SOD, MTS, All Stars, or something like that. You do not go out and start a whole new deal.
Why was this deal started? SOD purse too much? There is nothing to gain by doing this, other than trying to save some money. If that is the case, and these shows do work, then other tracks will follow suit as well, only hurting the teams with a decrease in payout.
If the purse and cost to the track is the same, then why was this deal started? I sure hope at least the rules are the same. Just makes me glad, once again, that I am no longer in the middle of this.

I fail to see how this is a "good" idea. I guess I am looking at it from a fan’s point of view, '74. I simply see it as more races. These races do not conflict with the series I follow the most – SOD. If the SOD drivers are going to run the Renegade Series - great. I’ll see those drivers running more often on nights SOD wouldn't be running anyways. It's "bonus coverage". If SOD and the Renegades run different nights, I’m not out anything. I gain races to watch. It’s like right now if SOD runs a Friday Night race, I can hit Butler on Saturday Night and watch the open sprints. Win-win. But, if SOD runs Saturday, I will have to forego one or the other – half the bang for the buck.

I gotta agree with Duane on this one. How is this a good idea. If a guy wants to pay SOD level purse (maybe a bit more), SOD rules, and with SOD cars why not just make the races SOD races and put them on the SOD schedule. I am sure SOD would have been more than happy to have a seperate point fund for 3-4 shows just like the short track challenge and in past years the canadian challenges. The SOD sanctioning fee is minimal compared to the reguler purse so that is not a the reason. The MI fans know SOD sprint cars and historically when any other series has tried to run shows they do not get the following compared to a SOD show. Guess we will see what happens.

I'd still like to see the full purse breakdown... I fear that there is more on top and way less throughout the rest of the field and that is where it's a benefit to I96, so its not really good for the racers at that point. I'll hold my opinions on what is going on here until I see the purse though, I hope its a pleasant surprise.
How about the tire? ASCS? NRA?

I'm not sure I follow this. If I'm reading the blog right the events will be unsanctioned, but utilize SOD officials, scheduled to bring in SOD cars, with a purse "similar" to SOD's? Why don't they sponsor some SOD events instead?
When I first heard about it I thought someone might be trying to start up a winged 410 series. I think restarting GLOSS might actually make more sense in this case.

TJ in your post you are saying 6:00 qualifying,I could only hope that S.O.D & this Renegade series are going to hold true to a real racing format and actually qualify RACECARS!Something that I think has been missing from S.O.D. for a very long time.

Okay, I'm a little lost on where I mentioned qualifying in anything I wrote. Which story were you referring to?

I am trying to keep from forming an opinion until I hear more of the details. I am hearing that the renagade series is getting shows at tracks that for what ever reason refuse to book a SOD race, to me that is a positive. However I see two SOD shows at I-96 were we have had 3 or 4 each year for the last several years. I would much rather see more effort spent on getting some SOD shows with a larger purse all the way thru than adding another series that pays about the same. I am hoping that this guy will listen Mike Strevel more than Mike Mouch and that this can help SOD and Sprint Car racing in the area and not hurt it. We need some moe facts on this whole issue from both Barry Miles and Mike Strevel before we form a linch mob.

Maybe Renegade can post a schedule so some of us can plan some weekends off. Seems everyone else that is running has posted theirs.
